The messaging platform Telegram has become a hub for job scams and other forms of fraud, Revolut is warning in a new report by Bloomberg

Approximately 58 percent of reported job scams globally started their journey on Telegram last year, according to an analysis by the fintech firm of more than 10 billion transactions in 2025. Telegram was linked to 21 percent of all fraud cases identified by Revolut, making it the single largest origin point of scams in many countries, Bloomberg said.

“The rapid rise of scams stemming from Telegram shows how quickly criminal tactics adapt,” Woody Malouf, Revolut’s head of financial crime, told the news agency. Malouf called on social-media platforms to step up their efforts to fight fraud and other illicit activity.

Revolut’s data still points to Meta and its apps as a major conduit for fraudulent activity. Meta’s platforms “continue to account for nearly half of all reported scams,” Bloomberg reported, while TikTok saw a sixfold increase in the percentage of users reporting scams on the app, according to Revolut.

The scams typically involve persuading customers to move money to accounts controlled by criminals through so-called authorized push payments. Fake job offers are one of several common lures, alongside sham investment opportunities, bogus products, and romance schemes, Bloomberg reported.

UK Finance estimates that authorized push payment scams caused almost £260 million in losses in the first half of 2025, according to the report.
