The European Commission is preparing to unveil an action plan against digital fraud before the summer as it seeks to strengthen the European Union’s response to a surge in online scams and cyber-enabled financial crime, according to The Brussels Times.
EU Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner announced the coming plan during the Global Fraud Summit 2026 in Vienna on March 16, the report said. The forthcoming EU action plan will lay out measures to fight digital fraud through greater coordination and partnerships among public authorities, private-sector partners, and civil society, the news outlet said.
The summit brought together governments, law-enforcement agencies, international organizations and businesses to coordinate a global response to fraud. Brunner spoke during a session titled “Turning the tide: from commitment to action,” which examined the changing international fraud landscape, the news agency said.
The event, organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and INTERPOL, also featured a formal announcement of a Call to Action on Combatting Fraud, setting out key steps to address the problem.
