Our Mission

Certain Risk is a New York City-based news outlet covering the global fight against financial crime and other risk-management concerns. We help curate and report news for an international readership of compliance professionals, law-enforcement officials, regulators, and advocates engaged in combatting illicit finance, corruption, and human and wildlife trafficking. 

The site is also home to the Certain Risk email newsletter, The Daily, and publishes content by third-party subject-matter experts in the fields of anti-money laundering compliance, sanctions, and risk management, among other topics. 

Certain Risk was founded by veteran journalist Brian Orsak, who in various roles has over 15 years of experience reporting and editing news and other content on illicit finance and compliance, and seasoned software developer Nathan Abbott, who has more than 20 years of experience in publishing, including roles with The New Yorker, Condé Nast Traveler, and Parade.
